Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Mauritania SIM card: frequently asked questions

What is the best SIM card for Mauritania?

One that works where you’re going. The BeachSIM Mauritania SIM card covers Nouakchott and the other main destinations, connects to another local network if one isn’t available and includes hotspot sharing.

Should I buy a SIM card at Nouakchott airport?

You can, but it means queuing after your flight. With a BeachSIM SIM card you order at home, activate it before you leave and you’re online as soon as you land. You also know the price upfront.

When should I order my SIM card?

Order early enough for delivery, ideally one to two weeks before you travel. Activate it as soon as it arrives. At your destination, insert it, switch the line on and turn on data roaming.

Does the SIM card work in the desert?

In towns and along the main routes, yes. In the open desert coverage can be limited, which is true for every network.

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

Yes. WhatsApp stays linked to your usual number, even with a new SIM card in your phone. With a dual-SIM phone you can also keep your home SIM in for calls.

Can I share my data with other devices?

Yes, hotspot sharing is included.

Is my phone compatible?

Your phone must be network-unlocked. The 3-in-1 SIM fits standard, micro and nano SIM slots.
