Frequently Asked Questions

Kenya eSIM: frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Kenya?

One that works where you’re going. The BeachSIM Kenya eSIM covers Nairobi and the other main destinations, connects to another local network if one isn’t available and includes hotspot sharing.

Should I buy a SIM card at Nairobi airport or an eSIM?

With an eSIM you skip the airport queue and you’re online as soon as you land. You also know the price upfront.

When should I buy and install my Kenya eSIM?

As early as possible. Your eSIM arrives instantly by email, so install it the moment it arrives. When you land, switch it on and turn on data roaming.

Does the eSIM work on safari?

At many lodges and camps, and near towns, yes. Out in the national parks there are areas with weak or no signal, which is true for every network.

Can I make calls with the Kenya eSIM?

It’s data-only, so there’s no local phone number. Make voice and video calls through your messaging apps, which stay linked to your usual number.

Can I share my data with other devices?

Yes, hotspot sharing is included, so you can share your data with a tablet, laptop or a travel companion’s phone.

Is there an unlimited Kenya eSIM?

This eSIM comes with 10GB of data, which is plenty for maps, messaging and social media.

Is my phone compatible?

Most iPhones from the XS/XR onwards and many recent Android phones support eSIM. Your phone must also be network-unlocked. Tip: dial *#06#. If an “EID” appears, your phone supports eSIM.
